09/20/2006 Our Chapter Attended the Illinois State FFA Convention this summer. We picked up some great awards for our hard work. Check out the article. On June 13-15, 2006 the Mt. Vernon FFA Chapter traveled up to Springfield, Illinois for the 78th Annual State FFA Convention. Our Chapter took 15 members and 2 advisors. This convention is set up to recognize the FFA Chapters throughout Illinois and to reward them for their hard work.
Our Chapter received several different awards including Triple Gold FFA Chapter, Gold in Illinois in Student and Chapter Development, 7th place for our Heritage Program, 4th for our Cooperative Activities, and the Sweepstakes Award. (Each of the above awards are for recognition of our chapter activities that we hold throughout the school.) We also received a “Silver Scrapbook award” for our chapter’s 2005-2006 scrapbook and placed 2nd in Illinois for the Gold Harvest food collection event.
We also received some individual awards. Derek Moore, 2005-2006 FFA President, received a Silver rating for his work as President. I received Excellence in Division II Botany at the Agriscience Fair, and Joseph Droll and I each received an award for our essays about alternative fuels, placing in the top 15 in the state. This is the first time a Mt. Vernon FFA member has received this award. Timothy Oliger and I also received our State FFA Degree.
Congratulations to our Chapter for a great year and we look forward to racking up a new list of awards for the coming year.
