On June The Mt. Vernon Agriculture Department and FFA Chapter were named the top program in state in student development at the Illinois FFA Convention, held June 9-11 in Springfield. Mt. Vernon was chosen first out of over 300 agriculture departments in Illinois. This is the first time that Mt. Vernon has won this coveted award. Agriculture departments nationwide are judged on three areas: student development, chapter development, and community development. Agricultural education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber, and natural resources systems. Way to go Mt. Vernon!
Fourteen members of the Mt. Vernon FFA Chapter attended the 81st Illinois FFA Convention in Springfield on June 9-11, 2009. While in Springfield, members receievd multiple awards for their hard work and dedication over the past year, and was named the 9th highest FFA Chapter in the State.
